Bioimplants Laboratory

Bioimplants Laboratory offers advanced students of careers of odontology, materials science and engineering, bioengineering or biomedical engineering and related careers, the possibility to start and complete a internship in the laboratory installations.

In the given internship a Project regarding our research areas will be developed. Applicants for a pasantia can also develop a project of their own; in case of not having a personal project already written, a research thread will be assigned to the applicant.

It is also possible to realize a doctoral thesis following our research areas.

This internship duration will vary according to applicants necessity, the project being applied or any given academic circumstances.

We hope the information hereby it is useful for your purposes. Please, feel comfortable to communicate with us via our contact form.

Testimonial

I am Laura Geissler from the RWTH Aachen University in Germany. I finished the basic studies of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen from October 2005 until August 2007. Subsequently I focussed on Biomedical Engineering in exchange studies with the KTH Stockholm. I hazardously found the website of the Bioimplants Laboratory belonging to the National University of Entre Rios in the English Wikipedia. Spontaneously I sent an email asking if there might be a possibility to write a mini-thesis in English at the Laboratory – two mini-thesis are obligatory for my German diploma studies. The answer: “You are very welcome, when would you like to come?”.../p>

After a few weeks of email-communication discussing how we might realize an appropriate project, I was officially accepted. My mini-thesis title was decided: “Comparative study of the newly formed bone using titanium implants with different surface treatments in rabbit tibia”. The study was accomplished between end of september and december 2008.

I was warmly welcomed and then led to the student residencies where I lived for the three months.

The Laboratory consists of two rooms offering three computers, provided with internet, a limited access to Science Direct publications and everything you need to prepare and analyze histological preparations

The time working at the Laboratory was wonderful. I got introduced into drinking mate amargo (the slightly bitter traditional tea) and made them try German cakes as an exchange. Everyone helped as much as he could to realize and finish the study in the short time, it was a great team work.

Communication started in English via one of the former Laboratory members but I learned to communicate the most important things in Spanish quite fast. This was as well due to the fact that I lived in the student residencies (see below). Most of the time I worked with one of the computers of the Laboratory, but implant material preparations and the surgeries were done in Professor Deccos Consultorio in Diamante, as well as the SEM/EPMA study was done in a CONICET Laboratory in the City of Santa Fe.

The Laboratory is installed in the countryside of Oro Verde in the Bioengineering faculty of the UNER Paraná, being a very small and basically student town about 15km from Paraná. Oro Verde and especially the residencies are a great place to learn about Argentina. Since the UNER is the first Bioengineering University of Argentina, students from all over the country move there. You will find sporting facilities and teams, as well as many places to do asados (barbecues) close by.

I can warmly recommend the Laboratory resuming that I really enjoyed my time working there and being able to make the experience of living in Argentina. They are very interested in doing joint research projects and as well in cooperation with other universities.

Entre Rios National University residencies

Entre Rios National University residencies were built in 1999 with a FONAVI credit. Their purpose is to provide with an optimal study environment. They are located in Los Sauces y Las Calandrias corner, approximately 710 yards from the faculty. In so, it is of the scarce houses at a close distance from faculty installations. Students of the careers of Bioengineering, Bioinformatics and Agronomical Engineering inhabit these buildings. One house is dedicated to professors. Admission to these residencies is detailed in a document provided by the administration department of the faculty of engineering.

Due to the high percentage of alumni from faraway places (approximately 50%), residencies have become a very important factor, and in some case, decisive in the choice of studying.

Residencies are composed of four habitational modules. Each of these modules or block, comprises four apartments. Also each apartment can abid up to four persons, resulting in a total availability of sixty four beds as the sum of the capacity of the four blocks.

Basic furniture is provided by the faculty, for so there have been already included a kitchen, a refrigerator, tables and chairs, in addition to bathroom essential equipment. There are two tables, one located for the study room and other in the dining room. The amount of chairs in each apartment is of ten chairs.

Up to June 11th, residencies rent is of 110 argentinian pesos, equivalent to 35 american dollars. A percentage of this cost is to cover for expenses of these houses, rent comprises the remaining percentage
